JISHA OSHMS Standards Certification
Since 1993 the Japan Industrial Safety and Health Association (JISHA) has promoted occupational safety and health management systems (OSHMS) to enhance workplace safety and health as well as to prevent industrial accidents. In 1996 JISHA started the certification business on OSHMS as the first external certification body in our country. The Ministry of labor, Health and Welfare of Japan released OSHMS Guideline in 1999, and in 2001 JISHA started its certification business after developing JISHA OSHMS standard pursuant to the government Guideline. Through this business, JISHA promotes the implementation of effective OSHMS in workplaces, making the best use of the knowledge and experience gained through occupational safety and health related projects/programs. When the results of certification assessment are approved, JISHA grants certification to the company bearing the name of the JISHA Chairman( Fujio Mitarai, chairman/CEO of Nippon Keidanren).
JISHA OSHMS Standards 2006
The JISHA Standards were developed in line with the OSHMS Guideline by the Ministry of Labor, Health and Welfare (first released in 1991, revised in 2006 ) and ILO’s Guidelines on OSHMS( ILO-OSH 2001), with some of JISHA’ s own concepts added.
Certification Business
The majority of companies certified belong to the manufacturing industry and the number has been growing year by year.
Usually a certification assessment is conducted by two highly skilled occupational safety and health professionals, which is highly appreciated by the board member of companies.
Overseas Certification
JISHA has experience in assessing Japanese companies expanding overseas. In the past, three workplaces have been certified in Taiwan, Thailand, and People’s Republic of China.
