In principle, APOSHO members are “non-governmental, non-profit and public interest organizations in the Asia-Pacific region engaged in activities primarily related to the promotion and enhancement of occupational safety and health practices”. The Japan Industrial Safety and Health Association (JISHA) is a member of APOSHO.
Governmental organizations in the Asia-Pacific region are classified as Associate Members. Organizations outside of the Asia-Pacific region, both governmental and non-governmental, are Affiliate Members.
There are exceptions to this rule, since some organizations joined before these policies were put into place, and some countries (such as socialist states) do not have non-governmental organizations.

The operation of APOSHO is overseen by the Chairperson, Secretary General and Secretariat. The Chairperson is elected by consensus from Full or Associate Members from the representative of the organization that will host the next Annual General Meeting, with the term of office one year, in principle. The Secretary General is elected from among individuals affiliated with a member organization and has a term of office that lasts, in principle, for two years, and that may be extended. The Secretariat is rotated among the organizations to which the Chairperson belongs. APOSHO does not collect dues for the management of the association, nor are there special funds. The operating expenses of the Secretariat are covered by the member organization to which the Chairperson belongs, and participation fees for meetings and other events are the responsibility of attending organizations. There are two standing committees: a Membership Committee, which deliberates the qualifications of member organizations, and a Technical Committee, which has an objective to promote and exchange technical information related to safety and health. Other committees include the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) Committee, Management Development Committee, and Education & Training Committee.
As with the committee activities mentioned above, APOSHO’s main activities include the organization of the association’s annual conference by Full Members on a rotating basis, as well as research presentations on occupational safety and health issues in various countries and regions held over a period of about two days that are open to the public.
Please check out the following information on APOSHO members and activities, as well as past conferences.
