Final Figures on Casualties by Industrial Accidents in 1998

The Ministry of Labour has recently announced the final figure on industrial accidents involving casualties (deaths and injuries requiring a work absence of four days or more, final figures) in 1998. According to the ministry, industrial accident casualties in all industries totaled 148,248 persons, a decrease of 8,478 from 156,726 for the previous year, even breaking the historical low recorded in 1997.

By industry, the manufacturing industry accounted for the largest share with 42,269 casualties (28.5% of all industry total), followed by the construction industry (38,117; 25.7%), and the land cargo transportation industry (15,646; 10.6%).
