A worker made a crane maneuvering error while loading and unloading an engine, injuring another worker's fingers.
While an engine was being lowered onto a mount using a crane, a worker tried to line up the bolt holes, while telling the crane operator to slowly lower the crane. When the crane operator accidentally lowered the crane too far, the first worker's fingers were crushed between the engine and the mount.

Corrective Action
1. When lining up the holes on a suspended load, use a pinch bar or guide pin, not your fingers or hands.
2. When working with a crane, workers should always use signals and communicate clearly with the crane operator.
3. Slinging work should be performed in such a way that the load is kept level. Use a designated metal hanger.
