While using gas to cut a bushing, some ignited grease came gushing out, burning a worker's face.

The worker was using gas to try to cut a bushing piece. When he cut as far as the interior spacer, grease remaining in the grease reservoir reached a high temperature, creating high internal pressure. The grease ignited and came gushing out, burning the worker's face.

Corrective Action
1. Use a designated bushing removal tool.
2. If gas must be used to do the cutting, first create an opening to release pressure.
3. When performing gas cutting, be sure to wear a face shield or protective mask.
