The retaining plate of a recoil spring assembly jig slipped, crushing a worker's fingers.

To remove an assembled coil spring from a jig, worker A was supporting the retaining plate while worker B reached under it to try to remove the spring. When the spring started to fall, a surprised worker A suddenly moved his hands, letting the retaining plate fall and crush the hand of worker B.

Corrective Action
1. Always use a crane when handling heavy objects.
2. Ensure that jigs are stable and mounted on a flat surface.
