Hot water spurting
out from radiator burns mechanic's hand and face. |
The moment an operator
loosened a radiator cap, high temperature hot water spurted out, and a
mechanic got burns on his hand and face. The engine was still running
then. Moreover the radiator pressure relief valve was rusted and did not
function properly, unable to release the internal pressure. |

|
Corrective Action |
1.
|
Stop the
engine when carrying out inspection and maintenance. Hang a caution plate
in the operator's compartment and remove the ignition key lest the other
workers should try to start to move the machine. |
2.
|
When
loosening a cap of radiators filled with cooling water of high temperature
and high pressure, release the internal pressure and wait until the
cooling water temperature cools down. |
3.
|
When
loosening a radiator cap, cover it with cloth and turn your face and body
away for averting possible spurting out of hot
water. |
